Shakira Foundation Shimmies Up $45 Million for Charity

shakiraHer hips don't lie and neither does her wallet! Shapely Colombian pop singer Shakira dug deep in her foundation's bank account and donated $45 million to charity on Friday.

The sexy singer announced the donation during Friday's Clinton Global Initiative meeting. Forty million will go to Nicaragua and Peru to address recent natural disasters there, and an additional $5 million will go to educational projects benefiting children across Latin America. Move over Angelina!

Shakira's a serial do-gooder: She's the co-founder of the Latin America for Solidarity Foundation, which helps impoverished communities across Latin America.

91. Shakira has a lot of nerve talking bs about the United States. What does she have to say about the FALN in Colombia? Probably nothing out of fear of her, her family and friends being murdered if she did. How dare she bash the United States and George Bush when her own Country is the drug distribution point for the world and who not too long ago saw its own Supreme Court and its Justices murdered.

The only good thing in Colombia is its President, Dr. Alvaro Uribe who has helped squelch much of the near Civil War crap that went on there, but it still exists and is a dangerous place to live or visit.

Shakira ought to be less "Politico", and as the book says "Shut Up and Sing".

Great she gave money...45 million is like you or me giving 45 bucks to a Charity...hooray, but keep your mouth shut about other peoples Country's until your own is Perfect--and Colombia is far from perfect...just ask Pablo Escobar, or the narco terrorism it still funds around the world.

And probably best the money went to South American Countries, they need it more than we do. Just be careful who you handed those sums over to for ensuring it gets to the people who need it the most and not the corrupt Governments that haunt that Continent. And she bashes the US?

92. #50 - you wouldn't pass a citizenship test in this country - YOU CAN'T DEPORT A U.S. CITIZEN. I was born in NYC, as was my mother, and my grandmother was born in Pennsylvania.

I consider myself a World Citizen (Nationality and Ethinicity don't matter)

93. Gomer #15: You total Dumbazz! You may not understand it; but, you proved true what #12 said about Shakira, by your own stupid words. Hahahahahha! had a lobotomy lately? Ingrates and traitors of America go home.

94. Ummm to all those idiots that say, why didnt she donate it to America???? Oh are you for real? are you really that stupid and ignorant?? Im sure Shakira has not made most of her money here in America, sure she is now popular here but she was popular before world wide!!!!!. The answer is simple! have you traveled??? do you know what actual poverty looks like???? Poor people here are billionares compared to poor people in those countries. Why do think there are illegal immigrants?? just because they want to??? I cant believe those people. Why would someone want to donate to a country where the government spends hundreds of billions in a war, and happens to be the first world power. People travel, buy when you do make sure you go out for the hotel, get to know the place so your little narrow minds open up. I'm sure she doesn't give a damn of the critism because she does it from heart. I'm sure those 45 million are a big portion of her entire money. Have you seen her in forbes or anything alike?? no but I'm sure she believes that is stupis for someone to have hundreds of millions on their account. Why not make a difference. SO don't hate. You are just jelous. Jelous that not even the wealthiest people in this country give in proportion to what she has given.

95. Shakira is the female Bono. I'm so impressed by Shakira! In this era of Brittany/Lindsay/Paris, it's resassuring to see young women who are great role models and humanitarians. Entertainers like Alicia Keys, Pink, Beyonce... But few match Shakira with her charity andher true interest in understanding the world and helping. You might remember how she recently attended UCLA history classes incognito. She has a brain and a heart. If she's doing this much at 30, I can't wait to see what she'll achieve as an elder entertainer/global stateswoman.

96. She looks unrecognizeable, in a good way. But foreign countries don't have a problem taking whatever the united States gives, whether they get it in their own country or steal it here. Columbia is a byword for drugs and corruption.

97. Ok #89...what are you the president of the Shakira Fan Club or just a coincidence she graces the front page of your Blog site? And than a link on where to buy her past and new CDs?

How tacky and one sided can you get. next time include a blog about her hating the USA so we get both sides of the whole story. She needs to stick to the music and leave her 2 cents out about other peoples home Country.

# 12 by One who challenges Shakira to help the less fortunate in the U.S.

I think your post is right on even with the caps! It is truthful and I totally agree with you. Her disrespectful remarks about the country that gave her the freedom to earn those millions is sad to say the least.
By far she is not alone is taking what she can from this country while showing no loyalty to it.

100.
20 Years from now those countries will still be in the same situation just as 20 years ago and billions poured in to them.
Corruption and mis - management will never allow changes, they profit to much NOT to see changes.
