47. Good for Shakira. Consider what Madonna has given to charity-not much. I think something like $100,000 last year. Not to mention the fact that the old hag preaches about being environmently friendly, yet owns stock in some of the worst polluters. How about Tom Cruise- only gives to $cientology "charities".

51. I hope that all of America's wealthiest individuals and companies can learn from this. I hope they feel ashamed they have not done more to help here in our country. We won this land through war, and we will always have to fight for our freedom, rights, and safety. There is plenty of money out there to go around. Americans just need to give back more. If it wasn't for the citizens of the US (especially those middle class and below) are the ones who have lined their pockets. They need to give back!! I don't care what Shakira does with her money (its her money and this is America). What are the Americans doing for Katrina victims? The homeless all around us? The abused children? Some of these other countries have people in control who are absolutely beyond belief wealthy and they do not take care of their own. I think its fine Shakira gives to whom ever she pleases. You never know, one day she may give back to America, but for now her intentions are to help somewhere else.

As long as we are helping those in need, what difference does it make WHERE they happen to reside? We are all human beings. Some are "givers", some are "takers", some are just desperately in need--but the "takers" seems to have the biggest mouths and a chronic need to complain.

It's amazing to me that you people are criticizing Shakira for donating elsewhere instead of the US...and aren't saying a word about Oprah Winfrey not remembering where she was born and where she could donating, instead of building schools in Africa. She's the first to line up Anderson Cooper for those "we've forgotten about Katrina" shows of hers...and yet you don't see her ponying up for citizens of her own country FIRST.

59. I can't believe some ignorant comments in here.

First, Shakira is BIGGER internationally, not counting USA. If you check her albums sales a big % of it comes from Europe and Latin America, NOT USA...so please....
Second, She has two foundations, one when she was 18, for the education of Colombia, she has made schools for Colombia and is RIGHT NOW making an art school in Barranquilla her home-city, i'm talking about BIG schools with the best technology.
Her other foundation called ALAS is to fight poverty in Latin America.
Third, She never NEVER said anything about 9-11, so please STOP LYING, all she said about Madonna was that she was surprised Madonna censored her American Life video, when she has done more controversial videos, thats it.
Fourth, This woman Shakira is very SMART, she isn't ANOTHER POP-TARD out there, or a WHORE like some people say, so please before bashing her, go read her biography or something...and i'm not going to talk about her talent...you discover that by yourself.
Fifth, I can't believe #12, she isn't even donating the money to her home-country and you want her to donate it to the richest nation in the world?....

Anyways...I can go on and on...also I read someone said she doesn't go to Colombia because they might....kill her?...wth? she has been in Colombia for vacations, she always go to her home-city in Christmas, she loves her country, she can walk without problems in her country, thats not a problem so please stop making stuff.

Colombia really has a bad image...so sad, I have been there and its all really beautiful, the violence is only seen in the jungle...lets leave it like that.
