17. #12 is a moron. FIRST... Freedom of speech is a right in the US. SECOND... Shakira was worth millions and had her foundation well before her first US CD. THIRD... there is a hell of a lot more tragedy and poverty in South America than there is in the US, and like a transplant list those that need it most get it first. She doesn't live in Colombia most of the time because it's not safe for her to live there, or she would. She earns in dollars and Euros because $1 dollar US goes a hell of a lot further helping people in Colombia than their peso's do. The US has welfare and social aid programs, Colombia has few and the percentage of people living in poverty in South America is much higher than in the US.

Get over yourself #12 and your egocentric US only attitude. I was born in the US, raised between the US and Europe, married/divorced a Colombian - we need to think GLOBALLY

Kudos to Shakira. Both for doing something that will actually make a difference, not just giving "two boxes" and expecting to be named humanitarian of the year, and for going to college to better herself.

29. Responding to #2 laalaa-Shakira is from Colombia, was made famous FIRST there and LATER gained recognition in the U.S. Of course her heart is going to be in Central and South America. She doesn't owe the U.S. ANYTHING!! Think about our economy compared to the economies in those countries...
Aside from the fact that I love this woman's music, I love the fact that she is so real and actually stands up for what she believes in and tries to make a difference in the world instead of spending her money on SUVs and designer clothing. Shakira is the real deal...too bad our "artists" in the U.S. don't take after her.

30. Shakira did a wonderful thing here - and of course, most of you are criticizing her for it. Who cares where someone decides to be charitable, as long as they are being charitable? I mean, really, how much have YOU donated personality to any kind of charity. My guess? Zero. So stop hatin on people who actually do some good.

And so what she says "Viva Columbia"? Why can't someone be proud of their own country they are from? If that were the case, we would get our a$$e$ handed to us on a regular basis overseas. I mean, please!

So bravo, Shakira. I'm proud of your spirit.
