Miss Teen Babbler -- But I CAN Speak!

She's the laughingstock of the Internet and beyond, after her babbling, dippy answer to a question at the "Miss Teen USA" pageant this past weekend, but Lauren Caitlin Upton got her chance at redemption today, courtesy of the "Today" show.

The 18-year-old South Carolina bumbling beauty got the chance at a redo, with a slightly less cubist answer, telling Matt Lauer and Ann Curry that she intended to study "special effects" in school (like how to make Blondish sound like English on live TV?) and even explained what a lunar eclipse was. Brilliant!

If you're one of the four people on the net who haven't seen Caitlin's shining moment, check it, uhmmmm, out.

32. Why would someone's social anxiety and attempt at humor make headline news? Quit avoiding the real world by obsessing on others foibles that make you feel superior!

33. ugghhh. Her 'comments' made me squirm. Not another SC dingbat! I live in SC and it seems that everytime something happens here, the media picks the worst person to interview or we have the worst representatives of our state. This is most embarrassing to those of us who are educated, can at least speak coherently and in complete sentences.

Oh, the horror. Poor girl. She needs help and more schooling.

I'm going to hide in a hole now. See y'all later.

(How embarrassing! I'm dying down here from the HEAT and the SHAME)

37. I actually was flipping through channels and happened to see the trainwreck happen. Sorry, I just couldn't stop laughing. I had a hard time believing she was one of the runner ups! However, it made me stop and watch the end of the program to (thankfully) see Miss Colorado win. One thing to remember is that these "beauty pageant" girls are trained from early on for just these types of situations. She should have been able to handle the question better. If you don't understand it, ask them to repeat it. (Can you do that?) It would be better than to babble on the way she did.

38. ....this is what happens when people have good looking kids, and the kids are raised around "you are so pretty" all the time instead of teaching them the values of intelligence and kindness. If your kid is beautiful, stress the internal stuff...the "world" will see the obvious, and the external stuff changes...if that is the basis of their strength and identity, watch out for a fall!!

39. The REAL reason she screwed up is because it was a question that required an actual opinion. And how much of a dolt is Ann Curry - "good girl you" - WTF?

40. Scarred for life! Eventually, she will fade away into obscurity. If not, this is what she'll be remembered for and that would suck! Imagine how many people will be sending her maps and making map jokes forever...such as like. Oh well, she made her bed.

41. Why do we make celebrities out of these people? Why was she even on the Today show? She fumbles an answer on a beauty pagent and somehow that earns her a spot on a nationally syndicated morning talk show? Stop making stars out of these people. Seriously, its ridiculous.

42. What an idiot! If you're a pageant queen you should be able to answer these types of questions because you get grilled by your pageant coach. I guess somebody wasn't working on their interview questions. Her answer should have been "because people are idiots!" lol. I still can't believe Americans don't know how to located the United States on the map!!!

43. I find it funny that everyone who says "Lay off her." and "Oh that poor kid." Just another example of Americans cutting people slack because of their good looks. Never mind that she just showed everyone in the nation that she can't put together a coherent sentence let alone a good answer. Then going on a show and reading a teleprompter is not, Im sorry, a redeeming act. It just illustrates how ignorant and wrapped up in her appearance she really is.

44. Dang! This is one chiled that got left behind!

I hear one of the pageant prizes is a brand new 2008 Blue Bird short bus.

45. Hey Kate, NBC's parent company owns the Pageant so they staged this for some redemption. She is a moron though.
