Miss Teen Babbler -- But I CAN Speak!

She's the laughingstock of the Internet and beyond, after her babbling, dippy answer to a question at the "Miss Teen USA" pageant this past weekend, but Lauren Caitlin Upton got her chance at redemption today, courtesy of the "Today" show.

The 18-year-old South Carolina bumbling beauty got the chance at a redo, with a slightly less cubist answer, telling Matt Lauer and Ann Curry that she intended to study "special effects" in school (like how to make Blondish sound like English on live TV?) and even explained what a lunar eclipse was. Brilliant!

If you're one of the four people on the net who haven't seen Caitlin's shining moment, check it, uhmmmm, out.

17. Another example of what’s wrong with our youth. There is so much emphasis put on being cute and not enough emphasis on being educated. We are raising more of "The Hills" type of children than we are scholars. I want to see the same outrage at the pageant as was present with the Vick case. I’d better see 100+ comments on this subject!

22. lets try to remember this girl KNEW what she was getting herself into. its not like she woke up, was taken by force to the pagent, and then made to answer absurd questions. she's been working on this for months. and honestly, if you knew you were going to be on national tv, don't you think you'd come prepared? its not like they surprised her with an interview section of the contest. and explaining an eclipse isn't redeeming. clearly she was awake for the science portion of 3rd grade even if she slept through geography and social studies.

23. What's with the racist comment #15. This has nothing to do with her being white or Blonde. I think you are jealous and you need to take a step back and look at yourself before judging other people. Everyone makes mistakes and I am sure you are no better. Unfortunately her's happened to be on T.V.. You or any of the other's on here would probably make a stupid mistake too if you were on stage and on National T.V. for the whole country to see.

26. Why are people acting like this was just a classic case of stage fright or something like that? the question : "Why cant 1/5 of americans find the U.S. on a map? " It was a classic case of being a MORON

Her answer should have stopped after "her personal belief" that many "U.S. Americans" Don't have maps... OK FINE -you at least gave us your "personal belief" and even though thats a RIDICULOUS statement, you have no right to continue to speak after saying something SO stupid. Then bring up things like "THE IRAQ" and "other places as such" (and what does any of this have to do with South Africa?) when the question is about 1/5 of AMERICANS (or as she likes to call them U.S. Americans) Its mind blowing, its really a shame. These pageants are ridiculous enough as it is, congrats you are trying to get by on your looks, the pageants that start at like age 4 make me sick to my stomach and the only way you get to this point is if you started at that age and are one of those "GIVE MY REGARDS TO BROADWAY" sickos singing that crap when you are 5 with a GIANT head.

27. Oh Come on. Give the girl a break. I've been onstage doing musical theater and it's nerve-wracking even after all of these years. I've even spoken in front of crowds. Heck, some day my boss stands right in front of me and I'm at a loss for something intelligent to tell him. WE'Re HUMAN !! Nerves get the best of us. Some people have more poise than others. I sometimes can't even leave what I'd call an intellgent voice mail to someone. So, no one out there has EVER babbled? You've always been clear and concise in what you're saying? How wonderful to be so perfect. Oh why are we so quick to criticize others before we look into ourselves !

28. I think she needs to redeem herself by going on "Are you smarter than a fifth grader". However we all know the answer already...NO! LOL
